Estate Agents and Property Surveyors – We received this thank you from a client today, he is selling his house and his buyer had a company visit to ‘survey’ his Septic Tank.

In 5 minutes after some teeth sucking they basically said the whole system was non-compliant to Environment Agency General Binding Rules and presented the buyer with a quotation for £15,000 plus VAT to replace it. Having carried out the same survey, we confirmed that the Victorian system was in fact in good working order with no issues or historic evidence of failure, the outfall was to ground and not causing a pollution to any watercourse, so actually fully compliant and in no need of replacement.

Unfortunately there is a considerable amount of confusion over the requirements of the General Binding Rules, coupled with certain companies looking to profit from somewhat, misguided advice…!
